Proofs of Edinburgh Art Festival Book

Very excited to see these proofs of Where do you end and I begin, the book that I have been designing for Edinburgh Art Festival. The book is the first to be published by EAF, and accompanies an exhibition at the City Art Centre and offsite locations around the city, including the Old Royal High School on Regent Road (an amazing building which is not usually open to the publlc). The exhibition is selected by five curators from Commonwealth countries and features work by 20 international artists; it runs from 1 August – 19 October as part of the Glasgow 2014 Cultural Programme, and during the year of Homecoming Scotland.

Digital Proofs of Dovecot Leaflet

The digital proofs of the leaflet for Dovecot's three summer exhibitions arrived today, featuring the logo and identity that I have developed. The leaflet also includes an exhibition map, which I also designed, that I will expand to create way-finding graphics within Dovecot. The exhibition opens on 1 August as part of the 2014 Edinburgh Art Festival. The leaflets are being printed by Allander Print in Edinburgh on Vision Superior 120gsm.

It's been a busy week: as well as this, I've also been designing banners and exhibition labels/graphics for Dovecot; a book for the Edinburgh Art Festival (their first publication!); and a project for National Museums of Scotland.

Invitations for Dovecot back from the printers!

The invitations for Dovecot's three summer exhibitions are back from the printers! The invitations feature the logo and identity that I have designed and were printed by Allander Print in Edinburgh, on Vision Superior 450gsm with a spot UV varnish on the logo side. Allander have done a great job, and the cards came in ahead of schedule and under budget. The Dovecot team are delighted with them and I am pleased to have happy clients. I have adapted the design for a six-sheet bus stop poster which will start appearing around Edinburgh in July and an advert, which will appear in Galleries magazine. I am currently designing a leaflet, including an exhibition map, which is currently being proofed and will go to print next week. Next stop some large scale banners for the streets of Edinburgh and then the exhibition graphics.

From the Introduction by Robert Williams: Our final collaborator lies hidden within an object. Rather like Dr. Farrar of Orton, this most hermetic of our alchemists is concealed amongst the arrangements of text, image and page of what might be thought of variously as a field guide, a grimoire, a text-book, a narrative, a mythos, tractate or treatise. It may be considered unusual or unconventional to include our book designer as a major contributor to the project. However, James Brook’s role is pivotal in helping to both frame and contextualise this aspect of the project and the relationship that it has to each of its elements: the artwork, the research material, the discourse and its audience. We are grateful that a designer so renowned who is familiar with and sensitive to the needs of artists has added his voice to the discourse. He has compiled a fitting contextual frame for the project as a whole, one that can exist beyond the exhibition, as a separate but related entity.
